I am: 70% Republican. | "I bet you'd like Democrats okay if they wouldn't keep handing out your paycheck to urban welfare cheats, right? Haven't posted anything in a while. I stayed at my mom's house at Thanksgiving and she has crappy dialup internet. I was anxious the whole time because I has a job interview just before the break and I hadn't heard back yet. It was a great Thanksgiving though, Amber and I meeting each others' families. Having Mono, I've really missed having a good beer/glass of wine/scotch. *sigh* Back to the job thing anyhow... I finally got the call last week saying I was going to get the job. Hooray! I'm still waiting for the official offer letter though. I've been looking at apartments in the mean time, which is something I always enjoy. I won't really know exactly when I'm moving until I get my offer, so that's a bit of a pain. It sucks that Amber hasn't been feeling too well lately. Doubly so that this is my last month in Lubbock. Next semester will be a bit rough with 350 miles between us. I will have to make the most of the weekends. That Pirates collectible card game thing is friggin sweet. I just wish people would buy more packs with American ships and characters. I've contributed a lot to our collection and the American fleet is being increasingly dwarfed. It's nice to know that Amber can order the cards at a discount though, but I've spent more than enough on the game already. That's enough rambling for a while I think... blah
I've been feeling like crap lately (at least when I haven't taken 900mg of Tylenol) so I went to Thompson Hall/Quack-Shack today. You know... I never needed prescription coverage before, so I finally realize that the moment you don't have it is when the doctor prescribes the antibiotic that costs $10 a pill. Anyhow, $50 will be worth it if this crap will go away. I just spent the last couple days turning my resume into an artwork. I hope to hell I can finally land a friggin job for the spring. The whole waking-up-to-be-350-miles-away-before-th e-sun-is-up thing gets old pretty fast. On the bright side anyhow, Amber just got off from work. Time to wrap this up. Interviews et cetera
What a long long day yesterday was. Amber was so wonderful to drive me to the airport circa 5 am. I hate being reminded that hours like 4 am actually exist, but it takes time to fancy up for an interview and I guess a real job is worth a bit of pain. A pair of Red Bulls and I was awake enough to check in at the airport. It was dark when I left Lubbock; It was dark when I got to Dallas. A $45 taxi ride later and I was waiting in the south lobby of the main Texas Instruments campus. Somewhere around 9 hours and 5 interviews later it was back in a car to DFW (I hate mega-airports, but that's another story). Dark once again and I board the little jet back to Lubbock. Finally 9 o'clock rolls around and I'm back on the ground with Amber waiting for me. A nice ending to a very long day. The interviews themselves went fairly well. The day started slowly, but the three interviews after lunch were promising. The last two I am particularly hoping to hear about. One was for a sustaining Product Engineering position. As no one reading this is likely to have any clue what that means, it's a job focusing on chips that are in production and improving the quality while reducing costs. The other one I'm wanting to hear back from is an interesting new position. After the designers finish their schematics they pass it off to layout designers. Most of the layout designers only have community college education, so don't really understand the stuff all that well, but all they have to do is take the schematics the designers give them and draw them out the way they'll actually be on the chip. The problem is, there are a number of times that their lack of engineering knowledge leads them to do things that sound nice, but screw up the design, so they want an engineer with some experience in both design and layout to help communicate between the designers and the layout guys. I did some design on my co-op and I can probably learn all the layout I need within the first couple months on the job. I've already gotten a Christmas gift for Amber (mighty early for me to start my shopping, I might say). It requires a bit of assembly, so it's better that I do it now rather than during finals or something. Now the trick is to keep it out of sight and to avoid giving any more hints (my hints are usually way to obvious for some reason). Amber should be getting off of work about now, so I guess it's time to wrap this up. Carpe Canis. Current Mood: happy | | Wednesday, October 19th, 2005 | | 8:50 pm |

Thursday will be a very long day
So I got my itenerary for Thursday.... I will indeed have to wake up at 4am so I can beat the sun to Dallas. Now for the really fun part. I won't get back to Lubbock until 9pm. I hope to hell I get a job offer out of this trip, long days out of town being grilled on the extents of your technical knowledge aren't exactly relaxing. Did I mention I have far too much work left on my thesis? Now I'm just waiting for my favorite distraction to get off of work (That means you Amber!). Current Mood: blah | | 1:30 pm |
Egads...
Holy hell! Anyhow, I'll be flying to Dallas again on Thursday... Apparently I'll be having between 3 and 5 interviews. That's gonna be a long, long day. I'll probably have to wake up at 4 in the friggin morning to catch my plane again. On the up side I'll probably get back to Lubbock about the time Amber gets off of work. I guess I should get back to writing my thesis. I have about 20 pages done, I expect to triple that within the week (damned well better that is). Fun with "Equalization Techniques for Digital Video Cables" or something like that. Current Mood: busy | | Wednesday, October 5th, 2005 | | 9:17 pm |

Livejournal, eh? is that like live bait?
So thanks to Amber, Heidi, and the big D I made one of these newfangled livejournal accounts. Me, blogging? egad! Found this thing on the internet:
Star Wars Horoscope for Gemini |
Like most Geminis, you are a playful little creature. You tend to be extremely curious, craving knowledge but sometimes having a short attention span. For the most part, you are charming and loveable. But at times, you can seem scattered and high-strung.
Star wars character you are most like: Ewoks | an ewok? aw man.... I think it's time for a scotch. Current Mood: amused |
